Getting Started
Patch Together lets a group of people work on one VCV Rack patch over the internet. One person hosts. The others join and see the same rack, with each other’s cursors, chat and drawing.
You need VCV Rack 2 on Windows, Linux, or a Mac with Apple Silicon. Intel Macs aren’t supported yet.
The plugin isn’t in the VCV Library, so you install it by hand. It takes a few minutes.
1. Make an account
Sign up on the beta page. Your nickname is the name other players see.
We email you a link. Click it to confirm your account. The link works for 24 hours.
No email? Check your spam folder. The sign-up page has a Resend verification email button.
The beta is free, and every account can host sessions of up to 64 people.
2. Download the plugin
Go to the download page, log in, and pick your system. You get a file ending in .vcvplugin.
3. Install it
Move the file into Rack’s plugins folder:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Rack2\plugins-win-x64\ - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Rack2/plugins-mac-arm64/ - Linux:
~/.local/share/Rack2/plugins-lin-x64/
Restart Rack. It unpacks the file when it starts.
4. Add the module and log in
Right-click an empty spot in the rack and search for “Patch Together”. Add the module.
It opens on a login screen. Enter your nickname and password and click Login. The plugin remembers you after that.
Try it with a friend
- One of you clicks Host, then Create.
- The host right-clicks the session panel, chooses Copy Invite Code, and sends the code to the other person.
- The other person types the code into the invite code box and clicks Join.
Joining replaces the joiner’s patch with the host’s, so save first.
Once you’re both in, add a module. It appears on both screens.
