Hosting a Session

When you host, your rack becomes the shared patch. Everyone who joins gets a copy of it and sees every change as it happens.

Start a session

  1. Click Host.
  2. Name the session, or keep the default.
  3. Decide who can find it. Leave Private unchecked and the session shows in everyone’s list. Check it and the session is hidden, so people need your invite code.
  4. Add a password if you want one. People have to type it to get in, listed or not.
  5. Click Create.

The line under the checkbox sums up what you picked, for example “Hidden. Players need the invite code.”

During the beta a session holds up to 64 people, you included.

Invite people

Right-click the session panel and choose Copy Invite Code. The code is six characters, like JTB4Z7. Send it however you like. If you set a password, send that too.

Decide who can edit

At first, everyone who joins can edit. To stop that, right-click the session panel and choose Lock Session. Now only you, Cohosts and Drivers can edit. Everyone else can still watch, chat and draw.

To let someone keep editing while the session is locked, right-click their name and choose Set Driver.

See Roles for the details.

Chat and presence

Two settings sit under Permissions in the session panel menu:

  • Who Can Chat turns chat off, or limits it to some roles.
  • Who Has Presence limits whose cursors and drawings the others see.

To silence one person, right-click their name and choose Mute chat.

Remove someone

Right-click their name and choose Kick. They’re out right away.

A kicked player can come back with the invite code. To keep someone out, stop the session and start a new one. It gets a new code.

End the session

Right-click the Patch Together module and choose Stop Session. Everyone goes back to the session list. They keep the patch as it was when you stopped.

Missing modules

If your patch uses plugins a guest doesn’t have, they’re told before they join. If they join anyway, those modules are left out of their rack and the rest still syncs.

Sessions go smoothest when everyone has the same plugins.
